XENTRY Online SCN Coding: Enhanced Security and Efficiency for Mercedes-Benz Diagnostics

Xentry Online Scn Coding is a crucial process for Mercedes-Benz vehicle diagnostics, programming, and control unit parameterization. This article outlines the security measures, user rights, and benefits of using XENTRY Flash for online SCN coding and other essential diagnostic functions.

Two-Factor Authentication for XENTRY Flash

To enhance security, XENTRY Flash requires two-factor authentication (MFA) for all users when commissioning, programming, or coding ECUs. This process, similar to online banking, demands a second authentication factor in addition to your username and password. Choose one of the following:

  • Smartphone Authenticator App: Utilize a compatible app like PingID or Microsoft Authenticator.
  • USB Security Key: Employ any FIDO2-compliant USB security key.

Setting up both options is recommended for uninterrupted access in case one factor is lost. A detailed HelpCard is available for download to guide you through the setup process. If you lose your authentication factor, your organization admin can reset it, allowing you to set up a new one.

XENTRY Flash Applications for Cars and Vans

XENTRY Flash supports Mercedes-Benz Cars (including smart*, Maybach, and SLR) and Mercedes-Benz Vans. It facilitates various tasks, including flashing, SCN/CVN coding, and entering equipment codes. While trucks utilize a different online process for control unit parameterization, all procedures are seamlessly integrated within XENTRY Diagnosis and XENTRY DAS software, minimizing manual intervention for technicians.

Automated SCN Coding and Documentation

XENTRY Flash automates SCN coding (if the control unit permits) and documentation within the VeDoc Vehicle Documentation System. After programming a control unit, changes to the vehicle or software are automatically updated in the VeDoc vehicle data card, ensuring accurate records. This streamlined process enhances efficiency and reduces the risk of errors.

Single Sign-On for Streamlined Workflow

XENTRY applications utilize single sign-on (SSO), enabling seamless access to various workshop applications like XENTRY Flash and WIS after a single login. This eliminates the need for repeated logins to central online systems, promoting a smoother workflow. The system automatically logs users out after one hour of inactivity.

XENTRY Diagnosis User Rights and Certificate-Based Diagnosis

Accessing certain vehicle models, like the E-Class and S-Class, requires specific user rights and certificates. Two types of user rights exist:

  • XENTRY Standard Diagnosis: For users without XENTRY Flash authorization, allowing tasks like reading and erasing fault memories.
  • XENTRY Flash User: Grants full access to XENTRY Flash functionalities.

Users must obtain the appropriate authorization through UMAS (User Management and Administration System) and undergo a one-time identification process. Certificate-based diagnosis, introduced to enhance security against unauthorized access, requires certificates provided by the manufacturer for diagnosis sessions. These certificates are exchanged between the tester and the vehicle, ensuring secure communication.

Obtaining Certificates and Associated Costs

Independent workshops with XENTRY Diagnosis Kit 3 or 4, or those utilizing XENTRY Pass Thru EU, receive certificates directly from Mercedes-Benz AG. For independent manufacturers, certificates are provided by the tool manufacturer upon agreement with Mercedes-Benz AG. Importantly, these certificates are provided free of charge to all customers. OBD-II functions remain accessible without certificates, but other functions require certificates tied to an organization or individual, depending on the access level required.

Multi-Factor Authentication Mandate for XENTRY Applications

Starting April 1, 2025, multi-factor authentication will be mandatory for all XENTRY applications. This enhanced security measure utilizes a combination of username/password and an authentication app or USB security key to protect user data and prevent unauthorized access. Detailed information and setup instructions are available in the MFA Guide. XENTRY Flash Support is available through FAQs and a ticketing system for troubleshooting and assistance.

Conclusion

XENTRY Online SCN Coding, powered by XENTRY Flash, offers a secure and efficient solution for Mercedes-Benz diagnostics and programming. The implementation of multi-factor authentication, certificate-based diagnosis, and automated processes ensures data security, streamlines workflow, and enhances the overall diagnostic experience for technicians. Utilizing these features contributes to accurate vehicle maintenance and repair, upholding the high standards of the Mercedes-Benz brand.
