Xentry Patch Causes Widespread Mercedes Diagnosis Issues

The implementation of a recent Xentry Patch, intended to resolve diagnostic issues with the Mercedes W463 G65, has inadvertently caused widespread problems for independent repair shops using the J2534 Passthru device. This patch, distributed by MBDiag, has resulted in Xentry Software crashing upon attempting vehicle diagnosis, regardless of the year or model.

Xentry Patch Failure Leads to Total System Crash

Initially, the patch was meant to address the inability to program or diagnose a 2016 G65. However, following its installation, users have reported a complete system failure, rendering them unable to diagnose or program any Mercedes vehicle. This issue has severely impacted independent workshops relying on Xentry for their diagnostic needs. Before the patch, certain programming functions were operational, but now even basic diagnostic procedures are inaccessible.

Unsuccessful Support and Frustration with MBDiag

Numerous attempts to resolve the issue with MBDiag’s support team, including Ronnie, Jesse, and Mirek, have proven fruitless. Over 20 documented email exchanges have failed to yield a solution. This lack of support, coupled with the significant disruption to business operations, has caused immense frustration among affected users. The initial purchase and setup of the J2534 device was also plagued with delays and difficulties, further exacerbating the current situation.

Allegations of Forced Obsolescence and Lack of J2534 Support

Following the unsuccessful support interactions, one user received a call from Jesse, a representative of MBDiag, who attributed the problem to faulty hardware. However, this explanation was countered by the user, who pointed out the system’s previous functionality before the March 2021 Xentry update and the subsequent W463 patch. Jesse’s response allegedly suggested that investing in the more expensive Kit 4 package, priced at $29,000, would eliminate these problems. This interaction has fueled speculation that Mercedes is intentionally neglecting J2534 support, potentially forcing independent repair shops to purchase their high-priced diagnostic equipment. The xentry patch debacle highlights the challenges faced by independent workshops relying on third-party diagnostic solutions for Mercedes vehicles. The lack of adequate support and the potential for disruptive software updates underscore the need for reliable and affordable diagnostic options in the automotive aftermarket.
